Finding Stillness
Meditation is a practice that can help reduce stress, improve your focus, and help you find inner peace.
It’s very simple.
Here’s a basic guide to get you started.
Find a space, preferably free from distractions, a quiet space.
Once you have found your space to sit, get comfortable.
Set a timer and close your eyes. Allow yourself to focus on your breath.
Notice your pace, the rhythm of your breath.
Notice your chest or abdomen rise and fall with each inhalation, and exhales.
Don’t try to control the breath, just observe the breath.
When your thoughts begin to wander, don’t judge them, just bring your attention back, gently guide it back to your breath.
Maintain a gentle awareness throughout the meditation. Be present in the moment without getting caught up in thoughts or emotions.
When your timer goes off, take a few moments to become aware of your surroundings. You can do this by wiggling your fingers and toes, and take a few breaths, as you slowly come back. Gently open your eyes and take a moment to readjust to your environment.
Meditation takes time and practice to gain benefits. Be patient. It can be difficult to quiet the mind. Be kind to yourself.
Meditation is becoming aware of your thoughts and feelings without judgment. The more you practice regularly, the easier it will become to find calm and focus better throughout your day.
Namaste.
